2025 is already a handful. 

Meta has deleted fact-checking, canceled DEI programs, and is — to quote a lawyer who recently fired them – “descending into neo-nazi madness and toxic masculinity.” 

Today, we know for sure that TikTok has been a pawn in political propaganda for the past 4 years (at least). These platforms are becoming more harmful places for most of us to be. 

Our elected leaders are waging wars against marginalized folks while the vast majority of Americans suffer from high costs of basic necessities like groceries and health care. 

The political right officially has a hold on every source of media, from traditional news to podcasting to almost every social media platform. 

At its best, social media was a source of organized resistance, helping people find community and allyship and helping communities to mobilize. It was a democratizing tool to yield against the powerful. Now the powerful want to contort it into a weapon to further their personal interests.  

While we’ve always known the tech bro billionaires didn’t have our best interest at heart, there is a spike in collective anxiety (and Google searching) around how to leave Meta. Our clients are feeling the weight of extra uncertainty. 

As always, small business owners and entrepreneurs carry the weight of a moral dilemma created by specific action (and inaction) of policy makers we can’t control and systems far larger than us.
